Overview

The Staff Accountant is responsible for a wide range of accounting and reporting support as it relates to general accounting transactions. The Staff Accountant utilizes an intermediate knowledge of accounting principles and practices to provide accounting support including but not limited to balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close related duties. Although this position is generally subject to moderate direct supervision, a degree of latitude and independent problem-solving is expected. The Staff Accountant must embody TEC Values: Teamwork, Entrepreneurship, and Customer Focus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations using best in class templates and techniques for audit support. Provide analytical analysis and research.
  • Complete a wide range of month-end close related responsibilities, ensuring timely and accurate month-end reporting.
  • Prepare/Review and post monthly journal entries with supporting documentation.
  • Support the cycle of continuous improvement in process and controls.
  • Apply structured problem solving techniques to create robust, enduring process workflows as well as to develop and implement process improvements to improve efficiency.
  • Provide administrative support to internal customers for TEC’s accounting/dealer management system (CDK).
  • Maintain adequate knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting principles related to assigned balance sheet accounts.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders and effectively communicate with Management across the Company.
  • Act as the subject matter expert in assigned areas of responsibility. Be able to clearly and concisely explain processes and train others as needed.
  • Manage workload effectively, meet deadlines, and proactively communicate challenges to management.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to cross functional members of the TEC Team.
  • Assist in special projects and external audits as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of related experience. 
  • Experience within medium to large sized companies that operate in a best practice environment preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles
  • Excellent oral and written communication with the ability to successfully interact with accounting, branch operations, and other partners.
  • Independent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to challenges.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail while at the same time able to understand big picture/overall strategy & business impacts.
  • Intermediate skill with Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to utilize sound judgment and adaptability in successfully managing ambiguous situations and shifting priorities.
  • Experience with industry-specific ERP applications and functionality.
