Overview

The Rental Manager reports to the Region Director and is responsible for running the rental department for a location(s).  They are responsible for maximizing gross profit for the rental product and do so through sourcing and maintaining the rental customer base, managing controllable rental fleet expenses, and optimizing vehicle utilization.  From time to time, they work closely with the region director to manage the rental fleet by identifying aged assets for disposal and recommending additional rental equipment orders.  They also ensure the fleet is compliant with local insurance, licensing, and fuel tax regulations and process rental billing.  The Rental Manager works very closely with Lease Sales Reps to uncover potential leads for full service lease, guaranteed maintenance, and PM+ products.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in direct telephone, in-person, and digital communication to source potential rental prospects, conduct in-person discovery meetings, delivery in-person and digital proposals, and close new rental customers.  Maintain a timely, accurate, and relevant data set of rental customers and proposals in Salesforce. 
  • Conduct monthly to quarterly surveys of competitors and customers to gauge the proper pricing and fleet mix needed in the market. Maintain a data set of competitor information in Salesforce.  Maintain turndown logs to validate the need for additional equipment orders.
  • Maintain an expert level understanding of market factors for rental demand and use those to optimize pricing and asset utilization to produce the best gross profit.  Use the rental rate optimizer before quoting any rate to understand the forecasted GP of a sale.  Work closely with your Director to set publish “Card Rates” and apply discounts were appropriate.  Update Card Rates to reflect market demand. 
  • On a monthly / weekly basis, complete the billing for customers with active rental units.  Ensure every rental customer is insured, has picked up the truck with a proper driver, is completing fuel tax mileage compliance reports.  Ensure all rental vehicles and are rented in good condition, have proper licensing and registration, and have proper company logos.  Before and during the rental period, ensure the customer carries the proper insurance and is within their credit limit.  For each rental, produce all rental contracts and vehicle inspections, document and bill all customer damage, and ensure the driver and customer have a best-in-class experience.
  • Work closely with the lease and contract sales team to uncover leads for Full Service Lease, Guaranteed Maintenance, and PM+.  Pass on these leads and help convert existing rental customer to these products.
  • Be the expert in the status and condition of the rental fleet for your area of responsibility.  Maintain accurate, up to date statuses of all equipment in the rental fleet.  Communicate frequently and often with customers and the service department to facilitate smooth transactions.
  • Use the latest reports and information recommended by the corporate lease team to drive good outcomes in the rental department.  Analyze applicable data from Enrich, Power BI, Geo-Tab, and other sources to uncover opportunities to improve efficiencies, reduce cost, and / or accelerate sales in the rental department.

Qualifications

  • Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Management, or related field. 
  • 2+ years of previous sales experience required. Leasing or relevant service industry preferred.
  • Working knowledge at managing or analyzing a P&L
  • Working knowledge at managing or analyzing a P&L
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Effective time management and analytical skills
  • Familiar with heavy duty truck specifications including legal, performance, and application criteria
  • Proficient in cold call solicitation and delivering new business proposals
  • Proficient with computer programs and MS Office

Compensation

The base pay range for this position is $67,725 to $79,593.
