Overview

This position’s primary responsibility is performing all functions of a highly skilled Truck/Trailer technician and will act as the supervisor and trainer for other Technicians on the floor. The Lead Technician’s primary role is a fully productive technician, and at times, assist the department leadership by assisting technicians with diagnostics, scheduling workflow, assigning technicians to jobs appropriate to their skill levels, and helping technicians prioritize their time.

 

The Lead Tech must have technician followership by maintaining the highest standards, in alignment with TEC’s Vision, Mission, and Values.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled and complicated heavy-duty truck diagnosis and repair with minimum supervision.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance services. Identify worn and damaged parts all parts to include major components, repairing, adjusting, or replacing as needed.
  • Consistently stay on task to meet shop quality and efficiency and proficiency standards.
  • When needed, help department leadership with dispatching work to technicians, making sure the scope of repairs aligns with the assigned technician’s capabilities.
  • Assist technicians with difficult or high-priority repairs and ensure completion of proper documentation.
  • Maintain current knowledge of job and technical skills by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical and regulation publications.
  • Communicate frequently with Service Advisors, Parts, and supervisor to update on timeline of repairs.
  • Follow branch’s safety and standard operating procedures with limited supervision.
  • Serve as leader and role-model conducting oneself with highest of ethical, professional, and safety standards. Provide training to technicians in areas of technical repair, shop procedures, etc.
  • Appropriately escalate performance and any other employee-related concerns to Service Manager.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years in a heavy-duty Diesel Technician position
  • Master-level knowledge of heavy-duty truck diagnosis and repair.
  • Sound knowledge of shop operations and flow.
  • General knowledge of truck parts inventory and sales process.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Solid computer skills; ability to effectively utilize all required systems and programs.
  • Strong diagnostic skills and basic understanding of diagnostic software.
  • Professional demeanor (including ability to maintain composure in stressful situations).
  • Ability to effectively train and coach varying levels of team member abilities.
  • Ability to utilize and operate all tools and equipment for job.
  • Ability to perform work in safe and alert manner.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to obtain forklift certification
